What is the difference between thinset and medium bed mortar?

Thinset mortar is a specialized mortar that has been designed to be applied as a relatively thin layer. Thinset mortar will set thin and is used for the installation of tile and stone 15” X 15” or smaller. Click here to view our selection of mortar and thinset. Large and Heavy tile mortar is designed to be used with large or heavy tiles, greater than 15" on any one side. Large and Heavy tile mortar will set thicker to support the weight of the tile and will provide a thicker layer than thinset.
