What is filled & unfilled travertine?

Travertine can come with holes that are filled or unfilled, resulting in two different aesthetics and maintenance requirements.

Filled Travertine: The holes are filled in at the factory prior to arrival and provide a smooth/even surface. The tiles or slabs are either filled with a cement-based product or a resin-based product.

Unfilled Travertine: The holes are not filled prior to arrival and can be left unfilled and provide a textured surface. Unfilled travertine can be filled after purchase.
